I’m sure there are more, but you can glimpse the marquee of the Times Square cinema where Jack Slater IV is premiering in Last Action Hero the red neon sign of Ratner’s, the now-gone Manhattan restaurant featured in The French Connection with the grand-daddy of all car chases and the giant sign standing atop the Silvercup Studios in Queens (you can see it as you cross the Queensboro Bridge), which was the setting for the final rooftop confrontation in 1986’s Highlander. ![]() The first, and seemingly impossible challenge, a car chase through a crazily fantastic version of ‘New York’, teems with pop culture references you’d still be spotting after a dozen viewings along with blink-and-you’ll-miss-‘em nods to classic film locations. It pops up again, as the Avengers' 'Berlin' facility in Spider-Man: Far From Home. The trap and mumble rap subgenres have become the most popular form of hip hop during the mid-late 2010s and early 2020s. ![]() During the late 2000s and early 2010s "blog era", rappers were able to build up a following through online methods of music distribution, such as social media and blogs, and mainstream hip hop took on a more melodic, sensitive direction following the commercial decline of gangsta rap. The United States also saw the success of regional styles such as crunk, a Southern genre that emphasized the beats and music more than the lyrics, and alternative hip hop began to secure a place in the mainstream, due in part to the crossover success of its artists. The popularity of hip hop music continued through the late 1990s to early-2000s "bling era" with hip hop influences increasingly finding their way into other genres of popular music, such as neo soul, nu metal, and R&B. Hip hop became a best-selling genre in the mid-1990s and the top-selling music genre by 1999. Hip hop continued to diversify at this time with other regional styles emerging, such as Southern rap and Atlanta hip hop. ![]() West Coast hip hop was dominated by G-funk in the early-mid 1990s, while East Coast hip hop was dominated by jazz rap, alternative hip hop, and hardcore hip hop. The gangsta rap subgenre, focused on the violent lifestyles and impoverished conditions of inner-city African American youth, gained popularity at this time. New school hip hop was the genre's second wave, marked by its electro sound, and led into golden age hip hop, an innovative period between the mid-1980s and mid-1990s that also developed hip hop's own album era. The 1980s marked the diversification of hip hop as the genre developed more complex styles and spread around the world. Old school hip hop was the first mainstream wave of the genre, marked by its disco influence and party-oriented lyrics. Hip hop music was not officially recorded for play on radio or television until 1979, largely due to poverty during the genre's birth and lack of acceptance outside ghetto neighborhoods. Rapping developed as a vocal style in which the artist speaks or chants along rhythmically with an instrumental or synthesized beat. Turntablist techniques such as scratching and beatmatching developed along with the breaks. Hip hop's early evolution occurred as sampling technology and drum machines became widely available and affordable. At block parties, DJs played percussive breaks of popular songs using two turntables and a DJ mixer to be able to play breaks from two copies of the same record, alternating from one to the other and extending the "break". Hip hop as both a musical genre and a culture was formed during the 1970s when block parties became increasingly popular in New York City, particularly among African American youth residing in the Bronx. ![]() The term hip hop music is sometimes used synonymously with the term rap music, though rapping is not a required component of hip hop music the genre may also incorporate other elements of hip hop culture, including DJing, turntablism, scratching, beatboxing, and instrumental tracks. While often used to refer solely to rapping, "hip hop" more properly denotes the practice of the entire subculture. Other elements include sampling beats or bass lines from records (or synthesized beats and sounds), and rhythmic beatboxing. It was developed as part of hip hop culture, a subculture defined by four key stylistic elements: MCing/rapping, DJing/ scratching with turntables, break dancing, and graffiti art. According to the professor Asante of African American studies at Temple University, "hip hop is something that blacks can unequivocally claim as their own ". This genre of music originated as anti-drug and anti-violence, while consisting of stylized rhythmic music (usually built around drum beats) that commonly accompanies rapping, a rhythmic and rhyming speech that is chanted. Hip hop music or hip-hop music, also known as rap music and formerly known as disco rap, is a genre of popular music that originated in the Bronx borough of New York City in the early 1970s by African Americans, and it had been around for years prior before mainstream discovery. ![]() ![]() ![]() The number of pins you can associate smartwatches with, vary according to their model and make. He didn’t drink alcohol, swear, steal, or play practical jokes. Stephen Oates, in his history of the Slave Revolt, describes Nat as “a source of wonder around the Turner neighborhood.” He also, as he grew into a young man, was different, more serious than his friends. His reading and writing skills amazed everyone. Nat played with the Turner children, and was especially close to John Turner, one of his master’s sons who was about his age. The Turner family were prominent Methodists, and held Sunday services for their thirty-or-so slaves, and took them to Sunday chapel. He was raised on the tobacco, corn, and apple farm of Benjamin Turner in Southampton County, Virginia. Nat Turner’s childhood seems to have been-for slaves in the antebellum South-a pleasant one. The Turner Revolt was a highly consequential event in our history. The response of the southern states to the Turner Revolt was to dig in-a response that inevitably set America on course for the Civil War. Southern states determined to make sure that such a revolt could never happen again. Instead, southern states passed laws strengthening militias, banning large gatherings of slaves in churches and elsewhere, banning “anti-southern” books and literature, and eliminating slave schools. ![]() They would lose that argument, of course. On the other hand, some southern politicians saw the revolt as evidence that slavery came at too high of a cost and began arguing with emancipation or removal of all African-Americans from their states. For the first time, major political leaders including the governor of Virginia, began suggesting that southern states consider secession. Their charges brought national attention to outspoken abolitionists such as William Lloyd Garrison. Many southern whites came to see the revolt as part of a larger Northern abolitionist plot. The Turner-led revolt profoundly affected the course of American politics. In the trials that followed the revolt, twenty-one participants, including Turner, would be sentenced to be hanged. The revolt, led by a 30-year-old slave named Nat Turner, would lead to the deaths of over 200 slaves and free blacks, and about sixty whites. ![]() The most famous slave revolt in American history took place in a backwater Virginia county in August 1831. history and led to a new wave of oppressive legislation prohibiting the movement, assembly and education of enslaved peoples. The Nat Turner “Slave Revolt” Trials: An Account Turner’s rebellion was the largest revolt of enslaved people in U.S. On November 11, he was hanged in Jerusalem. Turner himself was not captured until the end of October, and after confessing without regret to his role in the bloodshed, he was tried, convicted, and sentenced to death. In the aftermath of the rebellion, scores of African Americans were lynched, though many of them had not participated in the revolt. Only a few miles from Jerusalem, Turner and all his followers were dispersed, captured, or killed. Locals resisted the rebels, and then the state militia-consisting of some 3,000 men-crushed the rebellion. Turner planned to capture the county armory at Jerusalem, Virginia, and then march 30 miles to Dismal Swamp, where his rebels would be able to elude their pursuers.ĭuring the next two days and nights, Turner and 75 followers rampaged through Southampton County, killing about 60 white people. With seven followers, Turner set off across the countryside, hoping to rally hundreds of enslaved people to join his insurrection. On August 21, 1831, he initiated his uprising by slaughtering Joseph Travis, his owner, and Travis’ family. Creon argues his case and on lines 811-13 he points out that Oedipus is making rash charges without proof, another kind of emotional blindness. They are talking here simply of spiritual or intellectual blindness, and claim innocence, saying they saw nothing. When Creon enters he asks, “Were not his wits and vision all astray/ When upon me he fixed this monstrous charge?” The chorus answers, “I know not / to my sovereign’s acts I am blind” (691-3). ![]() “For blind of seeing, clad in beggar’s weeds,/For purple robes, and leaning on his staff,/To a strange land he soon shall grope his way./And of the children, inmates of his home,/He shall be proved the brother and the sire,/Of her who bare him son and husband both,” (line 603-8).ĭuring the part for the chorus this is mentioned again as they pray to Apollo, “But that a mortal seer knows more than I know–where Hath this been proven? / Or how without sign assured, / can I blame Him who saved our State when the winged songstress came,/Tested and tried in the light of us all like gold assayed? Before he leaves, once more Tierasius says that Oedipus is blind, even though he sees and prophesies that he will become a blind wanderer. (lines 548-562) Again, this is a kind of blindness for Oedipus, because he does not believe the seer. Of course, we find out that he does not want to talk to Oedipus, since he knows that the source of the pestilence is the king.įinally, Tieresius arrives, and Oedipus greets him, “Teiresias, seer who comprehendest all,/Lore of the wise and hidden mysteries,/High things of heaven and low things of the earth,/Thou knowest, though thy blinded eyes see naught” (line 380-83) Oedipus keeps at Tierasius, even accusing him of conspiring with Creon, Oedipus’ friend, until he finally speaks in anger, “since thou hast not spared/To twit me with my blindness–thou hast eyes,/Yet she’s not in what misery thou art fallen,/Nor where thou dwellest nor with whom for a mate.”(544-7) He goes on to say that Oedipus will see what horrible things he has done, and end his days as a blind wanderer. This is the first time in the play where either is mentioned, and sleeping and blind is contrasted with seeking and finding, “In this land, said the god “who seeks shall find / Who sits with folded hands or sleeps is blind.” (line 140) The line is made complete at the end of this part, (line 354-5) “Teiresias he of all men best might guide / A searcher of this matter to the light.” It is just after this, that Oedipus says that he does not understand why the prophet does not attend since he has been sent for twice. ![]() In fact, they often occur in pairs, showing the audience the difference between wisdom or vision and blindness or ignorance. Almost every time sight or blindness is mentioned it carries both meanings. ![]() ![]() Avoid highly compressed audio media, like.In general, I have prevented such audio underrun issues in my own workflow by following a number of guidelines that were taught to me by pro-level trainers and from my experience as an editor over the years. Are you optimizing these files before editing with them? Is your workflow considering other bottlenecks that may prevent smooth audio playback? These kinds of things are worth considering should you be experiencing audio playback problems. You need to consider your own workflow when experiencing such problems. NLE apps, in general, are quite finicky when it comes to audio. I’ve listed a few resources below for finding free clips! You can also download a preview of one of the thousands and thousands of songs we offer in our library. Are you experiencing audio drop outs as you are playing back your sequence? I hope I can assist you in avoiding an irritating issue known as audio underrun. There are endless opportunities to bring audio clips in Premiere so you can get comfortable editing these types of files. If you want some audio to play around with, we’ve offered many free sound effect packs over the years that you can download and add to your library of video editing assets! One technique I’ve found is practicing with audio in any form, whether it be sound effects, songs, or dialogue, there’s always a lesson you can learn by just playing around with audio for 10 minutes. Once you’ve done this, restart Premiere Pro, and your audio waveforms should be working properly on your timeline. Then once you’ve done this, highlight all of the folders in Peak Files, and delete them. Then, you should see a folder called “Peak Files” double click to open this file. So you’ll need to follow that information to the Media Cache file location. It might look like C:\Users\Your Name\AppData\. Then you’ll want to find the file’s location so look up “Location” and then navigate to that file path wherever it is on your computer. First, go to Edit>Preferences>Media Cache. The fix is relatively simple so let’s get started. Pretty simple, right? Javier Mercedes published a 1 minute long tutorial on this that you can watch below. From here, all you have to do is drag the audio down onto your timeline in the original spot that you had it in, and because the “In and Out” points were already set, the clip will be the correct length, and you can just drop it down onto your timeline in the same place. This will match your frame in the source monitor with the clip’s In and Out point already set. Instead of looking through your bin for the clip or even worrying about deleting the video clip from the video track, all you have to do is hit the keyboard shortcut “ F” (or you can go to Sequence>Match Frame). For the sake of this article, let’s also say that while editing the video, you happen to accidentally delete one of the specific audio tracks underneath the video clip. Now let’s say you are in the middle of your edit, and once again, you’re working with video clips that have audio clips attached to the file. How to Recover Deleted Audio Clip in Your Timeline Note that this fix only works if the original clip actually has audio attached to it. See? It’s so simple, but sometimes it’s easy not to notice the most obvious solutions, especially when it comes to the interface that you stare out for hours on end being slightly changed. Now drag your video clip into the sequence, and voilà! Missing audio has instantly appeared. Click on A1 to enable it (it will turn blue). You’ll see the right A1 is already highlighted blue. ![]() ![]() Now, in the timeline - hover over the first A1 on the left side. If your clip doesn’t show the accompanying audio, go ahead and delete the clip from the timeline. I’m sure plenty of others out there are running into this problem, so here is the one-click fix. I scrolled from A1 all the way to the bottom, and there was no audio to be found. As I shot the video myself, I knew full well I had recorded audio with the shot. While editing, I was trying to drag a clip into my timeline, but the audio was not showing up in any of the audio lanes. I ran into this infuriating issue that has an embarrassingly simple fix. Have a video clip with audio, but the audio track doesn’t show up in the timeline? Here’s the quick fix. ![]() ![]() ![]() The Falcons began the game with the ball, looking to establish the run early with Qadree Ollison taking the handoff on three of the first four plays of the drive.
